New Month New Goals
I am one of “those people.”
I am. I can’t help myself. #sorrynotsorry
I get excited by a fresh start. Whether it’s the beginning of a new year, a new week, or a a new month, I thrive with a chance to begin again.
But…I am also guilty of falling flat on my goals halfway through the month and literally just giving up. #thetruthhurts
Ok, sorry for all the hashtags.
Anyhow, I have learned over the years a few vital tips for staying motivated and slaying my goals!
7 Tips for Staying Motivated
New month, new goals!! As we say goodbye to the previous month and welcome a fresh start, it’s the perfect time to set new goals and make a plan to achieve them.
How do you set goals for a new month? And how do you stay motivated so that you can achieve those goals?
Staying motivated can be a challenge, especially when you are faced with a task that seems daunting or when the results are not immediate.
Motivation and habits are two super important factors to achieving success, whether it is in your personal or professional life. In this blog post, we will explore some ways to stay motivated and achieve your monthly goals.

1. Decide & Accept
The very first thing you need to do each month is DECIDE.
Decide that you will commit your time and effort into accomplishing your goals.
Decide that you are worthy of achieving your goals and dreams.
Decide that you will keep the promises that you make to yourself.
You also need to ACCEPT a few maybe kinda hard things.
Accept that you might lose focus at some point during the month.
Accept you may struggle with self discipline to follow through with daily tasks.
Accept you might actually fail and have to pick yourself up and start again.
Then…Decide to keep showing up.
Achieving our goals can be hard! Look at the bigger picture. Always feel your feelings, but don’t get stuck in how you feel right now. Keep the momentum going by taking action, moving forward, and focusing on the future.

2. Make a plan
The first step in staying motivated is to set clear and achievable goals.
Take time to reflect on previous month’s goals. Did you achieve those goals? Why or why not? What worked? What didn’t?
New month, new goals: Make a plan.
Identify what you want to achieve and break it down into manageable steps. By doing this, you will be able to see progress and feel a sense of accomplishment as you reach each milestone.
It is important to be realistic about what you can achieve, as setting unrealistic goals can lead to disappointment and loss of motivation.
One common method of setting goals is by using the SMART goal setting method.
You’ve probably heard of SMART goals before, but do you know what it means? The SMART acronym stands for:
- Specific — What do I want to accomplish and why?
- Measurable — How will I know when I have accomplished it?
- Achievable — How can I accomplish this goal? What action steps do I need to take?
- Relevant — Is this the right time for me to be working towards this goal?
- Timebound – When do I want to accomplish this goal by?
New Month New Goals Top Tip: If you only do one thing, do this: Create new habits supporting your goals. Habits are the foundation to success.

3. Track your progress
Tracking your progress on your monthly goals is essential to staying motivated and helps to ensure that you are consistently working towards your goals.
It also helps you stay organized!
You can track your progress in many different ways from simply setting up notes in your phone or calendar, to using a digital habit tracker, or even a physical tracker at home. Do what works for you.
I have learned over the years that I personally do best with a visual reminder. I like to print out my goals and progress sheets and tape them to the wall in my closet.
It can also be useful to set milestones and rewards to encourage yourself and keep yourself motivated throughout the month. Take time to reflect on your progress and make adjustments as needed to ensure that you are focusing on the most important tasks.
Tracking your daily or weekly progress is vital to staying focused and on track.
4. Get inspired
Get yourself into the mindset that you can and you will achieve the goals you set for yourself this month.
Surround yourself with positivity. Here are some great ways to find inspiration:
- Surround yourself with supportive and encouraging people in real life and online.
- Unfollow social media accounts that make you feel bad about yourself or demotivated- who has time for that kind of thing anyways?
- Listen to uplifting motivational podcasts. My current favorites are Brendon Burchard, Life Goals in Progress, and Brene Brown.
- Use motivational quotes in your planner, journal, or screensavers.
- Start your day with a positive mindset using affirmations. (My personal faves: Monday morning affirmations, self love affirmations, and self worth affirmations.)
- Look to others who have achieved what you are striving for and learn from their experiences. This can be done through actual conversations, YouTube videos, or good old fashioned books!
- Theme your days: I’m a big fan of Motivational Mondays and Thankful Thursdays
- Create a vision board.
Where ever you look for inspiration, find something that resonates with you and reminds you of why you are pursuing your goals.

5. Avoid overwhelm
I can not stress this enough. Learn to know and love yourself well.
Know when to keep pushing yourself forward and when to stop and take a break. It can be easy to become overwhelmed or burnt out when you are constantly working towards a goal.
If you’re like me, it can become a total obsession.
Focus on creating good daily habits. If and when your motivation takes a dive, your daily habits will help you maintain momentum and take action. And action is what we need to achieve our goals!
Pro Tip: One of the best ways I’ve found to avoid overwhelm and take action is time blocking. Set aside thirty minutes each day to work on your goals. Make it part of your daily routine. When you give yourself dedicated time on the calendar, you make your goals a priority.

6. Keep learning
My kids roll their eyes when I say this, but I tell them all the time to “lean into a season of learning.”
No one is an expert at the beginning. Slow down. Take time to learn. Get excited about being a beginner and adapt a growth mindset.
When we learn something new, it can help us see our goals in a different light and can give us the energy to keep going. It can also help us develop new skills that can help us to stay motivated and focused.
By continuing to learn, we become more adaptable and open to new ideas, which can be crucial when facing challenges or setbacks.
7. Celebrate your wins
Celebrating your successes is absolutely essential for staying motivated.
No win is too small to be celebrated. Take time throughout the month to evaluate your progress. Recognize when you’ve made progress and give yourself a pat on the back.
Whether you have a mid day dance party, and extra cup of coffee, or take the rest of the afternoon off, do something that bring you joy. Tell yourself “Good job!” Tell a family member or friend that you’re feeling proud of yourself. Let others celebrate you too.
Celebrating your successes reinforces the progress you have made and encourages you to keep pushing forward.
New Month New Goals
Ultimately, achieving goals each month requires dedication, discipline, and consistency.
Set yourself up for success by breaking down your goals into achievable tasks, setting deadlines, and creating an accountability system. Taking regular breaks and rewarding yourself for progress is important for maintaining motivation and morale.
With a clear plan and consistent effort, you’ll be on your way to achieving your goals in no time!
